There are only so many websites with all of your needs. When I first researched for replacement parts, I was convinced on buying a heavy duty clutch kit with the out real knowledge of the effects. I basically had no supporting modifications what so ever. This would have been a total disaster, my stock motor will not be able to provide the transmission enough power. A highly modded car would be able to fan the the clutch with ease.
To begin I would Peek at the NASIOC.com for real content. But NASIOC is a huge site that contains too much data, making it difficult for people to find exactly what they want. I personally use the BBSlegacy forums, it is much more fine tuned to for intricate research. If upgrades is what you are looking for, please feel free to comment or post your questions.
For any type of modification there should be double the amount of research. Common sense, right? If you want to improve the overall handling of your car, buy some nice rims with really nice tires. Road conditions and weather may influence a more dynamic tire. I drive on Ws60 Blizzak’s. The treads are deep and the tires are made of a softer rubber, this is perfect for a winter tire. But in the summer, a nice set of 16″ rims with low profile sidewalls would be ideal.
Is performance most important? More Horses means more fuel, higher RPM’s puts more stress on the engine and transmission. To create more horse power, the fuel to air ratio must me increased. High Class German Cars such as the BMW have a Fuel to Air or F/A of 11:1 which means theres one part fuel to every eleven parts of Air. Peak performance is around a 14:1 ratio. Turbochargers, Superchargers, and Nitrous kits are the most popular modifications. Each of these mods will require more fuel to the engine, stronger parts, and most importantly skill.
Power means nothing with out control. This means suspension, brakes, shocks, struts, coil-overs and a lot more fun stuff. There are Drum brakes and disc brakes. Drum breaks have less stopping but cannot lock. This means that both feet can be applying pressure without brake failure. Disc brakes however, can stop instantly. This is excellent for complete control without exhausting yourself. The discs melt on to the brake pads causing Brakes failure, this occurs from extreme pressure at high speeds.
Need parts? Ebay is the place, Thats all there is to it. The Vin or Vehicle Identification number is useful to the Dealer to find the exact part. I on the other hand, have a motor thats been pulled from another car, this makes my VIN pretty useless. But finding out he VIN shouldn’t be to hard with a Chilton Auto manual.
