    Yes, I think so. In Mandarin, the character is pronounced as “wo.” Many Japanese Kanji characters still sound very much like the original Chinese counterpart. For example, “爱” is pronounced as “ai” in Japanese, just the same as in Mandarin.

    The original singer’s (谷村新司) rendition is still the best of them all, even after over 2 decades! This song is so good that even my eldest son learned to sing the Cantonese version when he was just 6!
